Dragon cake topper

FrontSide

For my sister's wedding, I decided to make a rather personal cake topper from polymer clay. In this case I had to make the dragon much slimmer than the previous ones, in order to look ladylike. I based the wedding dress, veil, and bouquet, on what I knew she planned to use. My ony wrong guess was that she'd have flowers in her hair. After I took these photos I redid her husband's hair, as the dark brown clay I had used was light brown after baking. The next attempt, using black, turned out much better. (I'll try to get some new photos.)

It was really fun to watch her reaction as she first laid eyes on the cake topper during the wedding. She almost stared in disbelief, and enjoyed the unexpected surprise immensely. She was even happier when she found out that the topper was made from polymer clay rather than marzipan, and thus could be saved. When I visited them later, they kept the cake topper on their living room table.

Back

I had to adapt the back of the dress to conform to the shape of the dragon's back. The tail is showing beneath the dress.
