Trying out my newly draped pattern I found a source from around 1410 and proceeded to hand-stitch myself a spiffy new Gothic Fitted Dress, or GFD for short. The shell fabric is a wool I bought at Visby in 2004. The lining is a beautifully soft yellow linen I found a large piece of in the remnant section of my local fabric store. This dress is my own personal proof-of-concept of the curved front closing method of draping as advocated by Tasha McGann of www.cottesimple.com
. The project took eight months from start to finish, and included a chemise of white linen to go underneath. Check out the dress diary
for details about the construction and research.
